When the idea came up to share with a broad audience UNFPA’s experience of partnership for the achievement of the SDGs in West and Central Africa, especially in harnessing the Demographic Dividend, we were far from imagining that it would be such an exciting endeavor.
Resulting from a collective brainstorming, the preparation of this book proved to be a real intellectual venture rife with questions on the meaning of various concepts that have become part and parcel of our language, though extremely polysemous, and on the alterations, they are subjected to by the realities on the ground. The approach we initiated to ensure that our partner practices are understandable and readable was scattered with traps, but at the end of the day, it proved necessary.
This book addresses the concept of partnership, its dimensions and its nature. It documents the experience and originality of UNFPA’s approach in mobilizing partners, introduces the dimension of partnership as a mode of commitment, and describes a few success stories in partner mobilization. Finally, it provides a synthetic presentation of a few key success factors in partner mobilization.
Far from being the finished product, this book is a vital input to facilitate future partner mobilization initiatives at regional level, and provides strategic guidance for scaling up and deploying UNFPA’s partnership approach in the region.
